I’ve learned a few things since deciding to become a travel advisor, and one of them is that a lot of people aren’t exactly sure what a travel advisor does. I think a lot of people believe we just book trips, but it’s so much more than that…or at least that’s the kind of business I’m working hard to build.

Here are three things that might surprise you:

📚 I spend more time learning than booking. Before I ever asked someone to trust me with their vacation, I wanted to make sure I was prepared. I’ve completed the training and certifications for the suppliers and cruise lines I currently work with, and I’m continuing to earn additional certifications to expand my knowledge. I’ve also spent countless hours learning the industry, building relationships, and creating systems. I wanted to do this the right way so I can give my clients the experience they deserve. I’ll save the certification talk for another post, but it’s been really fun learning about this industry.

📍 You don’t have to figure it all out yourself. There are thousands of itineraries, cruise lines, cabin categories, excursions, and destinations to choose from. One of my favorite parts of being a travel advisor is helping people narrow those choices down. Instead of spending hours trying to compare everything yourself, I’ll help you find the vacation that’s the best fit for you, not just the first one that checks all the boxes.

💻 I’m more than a booking engine. A website can take your payment and send you a confirmation. I want to be the person you come back to after your trip is booked. When you have a question, something changes, or you simply aren’t sure what comes next, you won’t have to figure it out alone.

A booking engine completes a transaction. My hope is to build relationships.
